Carlile Transportation Plays Critical Role in Wood Bison Restoration Effort
ANCHORAGE – Carlile Transportation has worked in partnership with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game (ADF&G) this summer to successfully complete the over-land transport of wood bison to the soft release pen in the Minto Flats State Game Refuge. Carlile has expertly handled the transport, ensuring that all 58 bison arrived safely. The bison will spend the winter under the care of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) at the soft release pen before being released into the wild next spring.
Wood bison are native to Interior Alaska and Northwestern Canada. By the early 1900s, they had disappeared from Alaska, and only a few hundred remained in Canada. Carlile and the ADF&G have worked together since 2008 on the long-term restoration project in the release of dozens of bison back to the wild in Alaska.
“Transporting North America’s largest land mammal is a very complex task, and Carlile has the expertise to transport the animals safely. Carlile believes in contributing to the communities we serve in Alaska and values our partnership with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game,” said Elinor Harrington, Manager of Sales and Marketing at Carlile.
“I want to thank Carlile for their expert transport of these animals. Carlile’s contribution to wood bison restoration has been a significant part of the program’s success, and Carlile can rest assured that their contribution has helped make the world a better place by helping to push wood bison farther from extinction and creating a renewable resource for future generations,” said Tom Seaton, Wood Bison Biologist for the Alaska Department of Fish & Game.
