Have you ever ordered something from a retailer only to find out that they don’t ship to Alaska? The reality is that it’s much more difficult to ship to the northernmost state than you might think. There are a lot of challenges that come with shipping to Alaska that can really hinder the process for most shipping companies.
Luckily, Carlile Transportation isn’t like most shipping companies, and we’ve come up with a way to have just about anything shipped to Alaska, even if your favorite retailer says it isn’t possible.
The service is called MyConnect, and it allows you to bypass any barriers between your parcel and the Alaskan destination.
What Is MyConnect?
MyConnect is a shipping solution that allows shipping almost anything to a Carlile Terminal in Alaska.
The way it works is simple. You have your item sent to our Tacoma Shipping Terminal, and we ship it from there to one of our convenient MyConnect package pick up locations around Alaska. That way, a two-step process can work around any retailer’s shipping limitations.
Not only is MyConnect a convenient way to ship to Alaska, it’s also fast and affordable. MyConnect can also be paired with Carlile’s standard liability coverage, with a maximum liability of $200,000.
Can I Use MyConnect to Ship Retail Goods to Alaska?
Not only can you ship retail goods to Alaska with MyConnect, but that’s actually one of the primary reasons we developed the service. Whether you’re ordering from Ikea, Wayfair, or Pier 1, plus countless other retailers, you can use MyConnect to forward your retailer packages to Alaska.
When you use MyConnect to have a retail item shipped, you’ll use two different tracking numbers. The first tracking number will show the package’s journey to the MyConnect location in the lower 48 states and will be for the original shipping provider. The second tracking number (freight bill number) will be for your package’s trip to Alaska via Carlile. That way you’re able to track your package along every step of the way from the retailer to your front door.
What Can Be Shipped to Alaska Using MyConnect?
The short answer is “almost anything,” but there are exceptions specifically to hazardous materials. MyConnect can be used to ship everything from small boxes to furniture. Want to have a king-sized bed frame shipped to Alaska? No problem. What to send a guitar amplifier? We’ve got you covered. You can even send an ATV if you want.
What Hazardous Materials Are Permitted From Shipping Through MyConnect?
Explosives, Flammable liquids and solids, Corrosive materials, Toxic materials, and Radioactive materials are all considered hazardous and cannot be shipped to Alaska without a special permit.
Can I Ship Ammo Through MyConnect?
Carlile can ship gun ammo through MyConnect, including black powder for small arms that has been classed in Division 1.1. This can be re-classed as a Division 4.1 material for domestic transportation by motor vehicle, rail freight, and cargo vessel only. The following conditions must be met:
- Packed in trays or inner packaging to prevent movement while shipping
- Each package must bear the Explosive 1.4S label
